Living In The Dark

When we lived in the dark, we had no idea the depth of our filth. We couldn’t see the stains on our bedsheets or clothes. We couldn’t see the scum caked up in the bathtub. We had no idea there was years of dust collected on our shelves.

In the dark, almost all things seemed good. The only way we could discern good from bad was through our touch and smell. Though we could smell the rotten food or dead mouse and feel our way to its position we could never truly get rid of all of the fifth.

We could smell our bad breath, but we still walked around with plaque between our teeth simply because we did not have light to see it all.

This is how the lost in the world are walking around through life and how we were at once.

They can taste, they can feel, and they can smell what is rotten. However, they do not have the Light to lead them away from the path that has many stumbling blocks.

They are walking around, groping the wall, all while cutting themselves and bruising themselves just to find the end.

In the direction they go there is no end. They become depressed, because no matter where they turned they run into something painful and even foul. They think if they go deeper into the path of stench that eventually they will be cleared of the foulness. They become free for a moment and enjoy the freedom of obstacles; only to take a step into sinking sand.

They are finally stuck, crying out for all the people they met along the path, but find no hope, for they cannot see either.

But then….

They remember that reel, that person, that story.

They will die in this, they think to themselves.

But they are at their wits end.

The seed that was planted years, decades, weeks, months, days ago comes flooding back.

There’s one whom they called redeemer, there is one whom they called hope, there is one whom they called Savior. And there is one whom they called Light.

They cry out and see THEY SEE the rope dangling, which is within arms reach.

They grab it and are pulled into the arms of their future.

A dark and mysterious tunnel leading to a brightly lit street, creating a dramatic contrast.

Even if they reject you when you speak Jesus DO NOT be afraid to plant that seed.

The Father will honor that seed, and it will come to flourish in due time.

You are the light to the world! Jesus, the ultimate light, dwells in us and shines bright when we bring Him forth!

Let us make Him our face and all moment of everyday!

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14 ESV
